Living Spaces Commercial Woth Woman in Yellow Dress
This page is a guide for the Investigate doomed commercial area side quest in Disco Elysium! For information on others, please see the Side Quests page.
Before starting this quest, be sure to interact with Kim's car and get the tools out of his tool box. Speak to the little girl outside the bookstore, which is just west of the hotel. Run through all her dialogue topics to learn that there may be a curse nearby. After that, go inside the bookstore and speak to the girl's mother, the proprietor of the store.

At this point, you have two options:
- Convince her that you'll look into the doomed commercial area (requires a Drama check)
- Force your way through the curtains in the east side of the bookstore despite her warnings and break down the door (requires a Pain Threshold check)
Either way, the quest will trigger once you state you'll look into the curse. Pass through the curtains, then enter the door behind them. You'll need your flashlight to see around.
The first room you come to is an abandoned gym. Head up the stairs just left to reach a dark, dusty labyrinth of hallways. Be sure to hold Tab through this area, as there are a few containers and quest-based items around. This includes a Production Schedule filament in a computer which affects the Help ravers start a nightclub side quest.
Once you're through the entire darkened hallways, you'll find a door to the left on the back wall. Take this down and you'll be in a basement with a giant bear with red glowing eyes. Luckily, the bear is not a threat!
To the right of the bear, you'll find a large metal furnace with an open door. Check it out, then be sure to smear yourself with coal and soot before attempting to shout up into it. Once the check succeeds, go back upstairs to the previous dark hallway. Then, go directly southeast from the doorway. You'll find a hallway that bends northeast. A metal security curtain had blocked your way from there, but if you shouted into the furnace and succeeded the check, the steel curtain will be open. You'll be able to enter the woman's room, and she is known as the Novelty Dicemaker.

When you run through all the dialogue topics of the Novelty Dicemaker, you'll learn just how cursed the commercial area is. At this point you can return to the bookstore owner to clear the quest, but there are a few things you may want to do while you have access. First, the Novelty Dicemaker herself can make one die for 7 reál, which resets all white checks. She can only do this once, so it's best saved later in the game, but it's something to keep in mind.
From the Novelty Dicemaker, return to the basement. You can look around with your flashlight in the southwest corner to find a secret passage that holds a clue for the main mystery. There are two machines plugged into a breaker box east of that passage that you can unplug to help later quests. Finally, an exit to the east of the breaker box will lead back to the street level and can serve as a shortcut in the future.
