This is a simple toy. It's not something to entertain a modern child with for more than a few minutes, not even enough time to go through the demo batteries. He isn't all that interactive and stays in music detect mode less than 3 minutes. Getting it out of the the box will take longer by far. But. I'm not a kid. And apparently easily entertained.

The sound is reasonable and there are a few song bites from the soundtrack. I have had no problems getting him to pick up sound even from some distance. He dances to my terrible singing. Gotta love that. His arms are poseable, moving like most action figures, up, down and some lateral movement. The eyes light up and he speaks. He has a shutoff switch to save battery life.The bottom half of the body slides across surfaces and will eventually find the edge. Something to watch for since I doubt he bounces well.

All that being said...

I think this little guy is absolutely adorable. He is now Guardian of the Residence and shows up all over the house, much like that little Christmas elf. I may even end up making him clothes. And every Baby Groot needs his own mini teddy bear from the craft store.

This has been goofy and fun for me and well worth having around.

Bought this for my wife and for a change it is "EXACTLY AS ADVERTISED". It dances for short spurts to a song or 2 in normal setting or or it can dance for nearly a full song, then keep moving to any music or noise you have in the room. Very cute, my wife loves it and her friends all want to have one also so I guess it does what it is supposed to do, make people happy.

Though cute as a button, this dancing Groot should only be purchased if you intend to leave it in a stationary position since it's not really ideal as a toy. The arms are poseable, yet they only offer two points of articulation and head is on a loose swivel. The button you push to make Groot dance is cleverly hidden on it's left leg, though I wished the speaker was of higher quality since it sounds like it's coming from a bathroom with the door closed. The toy also tends to shift a lot when it's activated so be mindful not to leave it close to the edge of a table or a shelf. Another reviewer mentioned that you should leave the two tabs that come with the packing on Groot's feet to minimize the movement and I found that this works nicely than with them off. Overall, I wouldn't recommend purchasing this toy at it's current pricing based on its negatives though I'd find it reasonable at a twenty dollar price point.

Finally! My dancing groot arrived . And to my surprise it's not all that great. It makes a grinding noise when it's dancing. To me that makes it a cheaply made toy. You would think that hasbro a company that's been in business for years would know how to make a smooth running dancing groot. But i guess not .My baby dancing groot in pot works flolisly wich i highly recommend . I guess some toy companys truly dont care about there products .Thanks hasbro for a cheaply made toy. I wish i had better news but it is what it is . I gave it 3 stars because well, it is groot after all and technically I guess it does dance . If you want to call it that.

So cute! And works fine. External music mode is a little tricky (instructions aren't clear (the hold the button down part and the 15 seconds part are actually two unrelated things not two steps in the same process (took me a bit to figure that out, maybe I'm slow))), but once you figure out what works, it works every time. It isn't supposed to be 'always listening' and start dancing every time music is played, you have to set it off (which I happen to think is a good thing, I don't want to constantly be replacing the batteries). I think some of the people who wrote bad reviews either didn't read the instructions at all or didn't take a moment to understand them (one of them didn't even bother to open the packaging, not sure how you have the stones to review something you didn't even take out of the box). Or they got a bad unit and can't be bothered to get it replaced. The 'loose head' is what sells the dancing movement, if it didn't move freely he'd look weird. Assuming a dancing tree toddler isn't inherently weird.

This little guy is cute. If you push the green button on his knee, he says I am Groot and starts dancing to his own tune. While his eyes are lit, push the button again and hold it for a count of 15, I think it is a shorter hold time tho. Then, he will dance to your own music. Amusingly, as he dances, he moves around and kind of shuffle dances in a circle. I have him standing in front of Alexa,,,dancing. I am the only dancer in the house. It is sad I had to buy a toy for a dance partner.

One of the eyes is defective and doesn't light up, and the price has more than doubled since I purchased. He's cute, and I'm really disappointed because my son would love him. If Amazon had a "swap" option for defective products this wouldn't be an issue, but now I'm either left with nothing if I return it, or paying double to hope that the second one works.
